This report also contains and analysis of literature on the research subject from previous researches both in Bangladesh and other countries. This research is conducted using both qualititative research methods and quantitative research methods. Data analysis is conducted using content investigation technique and the qualitative data is analyzed by comparing the outcomes of this research with those of other researches done in the past. The final part of the report is the summary of findings and recommendations. The literature review on Bangladesh corporate social responsibility among the state owned commercial banks has revealed that very few publicly owned banks engage in documented corporate social responsibility. Most of the banking organizations in this economy engage in CSR at a very low level and do not donate any substantial resources to social courses. Methodology This study is conducted using a combination of quantitative and qualitative research design. Quantitative research design helps to collect and interpret statistical data that is needed to answer the research questions posed at the beginning of this report. Quantitative research design results in data that is numerical in nature and it can be compared to draw conclusions (Cuvilceva, 2012). The sources of data for this research are secondary sources of data. Most of the data is from annual financial reports of all the eight commercial banks being used for the purpose of this study. It is important to use factual information to analyze the situation and fulfill the research objectives. The secondary sources that are used for this study include; Bangladesh Banks publications, Bank websites, Banks annual reports, journal articles, previous research papers, thesis and dissertations. Online sources were also an important source of information for this study. Websites such as www.bb.org were used to provide valuable data on the Bangladesh banking industry (Boubaker Nguyen, 2012). The websites of individual banks identified for this study will also be an important source of reference. The information of the banks listed in Dhaka stock exchange market can be found in the organizations websites. The quantitative data that is collected in this study is analyzed using qualitative techniques. The data is compared with that collected in past research and analyzed in the literature review. This helps to identify the difference between the current situation in the Bangladesh case and that of other countries. The comparison also helps to identify if any progress has been made in CRS by the publicly owned commercial banks and the private banks between the times the previous studies were conducted and when this study was concluded.(Sophastienphong Kulathunga, 2010) Data analysis Content analysis tools have been used to analyze the data collected in this study. Content investigation is used as an exploration method for the objectives of the research and quantitative comparison of the items being researched(Lee Kotler, 2013). The data analyzed is presented in form of reports, tables and graphs depending on the nature of the variable being compared and the data that has been analyzed. Findings from the research The data collected from the websites of various banks in Bangladesh indicate that most of the banks do not declare their corporate social responsibility in their financial statements. A look at the financial statements of Janata bank which is one of the largest publicly owned commercial bank in Bangladesh indicates that the bank does not report its corporate social responsibility spending or activities. It can therefore be assumed that the bank does not engage itself in corporate social responsibility and is completely focused on profit making objective of the business(Author, n.d.). Rupali Bank limited has a very elaborate CSR integrated into the banks business model. The financial report of the year 2016 indicates that the focus of Rupali Bank Limited CSR initiatives is to respond to the huge unmet demand in the society. The banks aims at making its business more committed to the social needs and national development through legal and commercial conduct. Rupali Bank Limited partners with customers and corporate organizations to advance its corporate social responsibility agenda (Ooi University of Essex. 2012).The bank offers contemporary financial products and services to the community without hidden costs. Rupali being a responsible corporate body, it conforms to all the stringent regulations issued by the Government of Bangladesh and the Bangladesh bank. The human resource aspect of CSR is the distinctive and the true capital of RBL. The bank treats its officers and staff as human resources rather than as employees. The bank encourages excellence in performance and also rewards and recognizes good performance. The bank ensures gender equity in terms of promotion and offering new job opportunities(In Barth, In Lin In Wihlborg, 2012). The bank also operates a death Relief Grant Scheme. The scheme applies to all the employees and the payments are made to the successor of the employees. Two retirement schemes are operated by the bank. They include Contributory Provident Fund (CPF) and General Provident Fund (GPF()Hollender Breen,2010). Other CSR related programs and products by the bank include Staff Welfare Fund, Children Education Allowance. The bank also engages in environmental conservation. The bank has a policy that in order to get a credit/loan from the bank, one needs to obtain clearance from Department of Environment. Out of the four publicly owned commercial banks, only two of them reported their CSR activities and programs. These include the Agrani Bank and Rupali Bank Limited. Janata bank and Sonali Bank did not record any CSR activities or spending. The data collected on Rupali Bank CSR spending indicates that the bank is committed to corporate social responsibility. The bank is very committed to the environment and also to the social welfare of the people living around. The total spending for the bank in CSR increased from $87.39 in the year 2015 to $116.80 I the year 2016. This represents a 29 % increase. There are some sectors that the bank did not donate to in2015 but contributed in 2016. The data from Agrani Bank limited also indicates that the bank is involved in many CSR programs. The CSR spending for the bank increased from 119.79 in 2015 to 160.8 in 2016. This is 34% increase (Choy Universiti Malaya. 2013).From this analysis therefore, it is clear that more publicly owned commercial banks are getting involved in CSR. Conclusion CSR is a self regulatory mechanism that is integrated in the business model. This paper introduces the significance of CSR in accounting. It also elaborates the need for research on CSR in publicly owned banks in Bangladesh where CSR has been lagging behind. A Study of the Events That Motivated My Identity â€Å"I’m disappointed†, said my father after he saw the paper my teacher sent with my horrible test grade. I’ve always looked up to my father, so when he told me those words felt the shame piercing my soul. However, presently I am a hardworking person who has come far in school. The geeky glasses and pony tail add to my school girl look. Getting superior grades in school is one of my main priorities and it has been effective since I graduated in the top percent at my school. I’ve come far as a result of the dedication I put into my schoolwork. Throughout my life, I experienced many things that have that shaped who I am today, but that shameful event had the greatest impact on the person I’ve become. It taught me not to take things for granted and to always weight my options. In sixth grade they informed us of a state test that the students were required to take. We were told of its importance and difficulty. All my friends and classmates spent that year preparing while I passed the time watching TV and playing on the computer. I believed that I didn’t need to know any more information than what I knew in order to pass. I would say â€Å"Ill study tomorrow whenever my parents peeved about reviewing. When the day came, I sat down in that cold room and made a terrible realization; it was impossible to answer any of the questions. I just stared blankly at the clock and watched time pass while everyone around me completed the exam. When the results came back they reflected the horror I went through that day. My teacher became disappointed and sent a note to my parents. I let everyone down. The next year, I was forced to take remedial classes while my friends took classes like art or played outside. I stayed home and studied every day in order to retak e and pass the test. It was embarrassing that I acted carelessly and thought too high of myself. Consequently, I faced the consequences. That shameful experience taught me many valuable things. It helped me understand that I need to pay attention to the little things in life because they can impact our lives. I realized that I needed to work harder if I wanted a better future. Now I have a greater sense of my goals and priorities and no longer give up on my goals as easily as before. I work harder towards the things I want to achieve and try to focus more on my school work. These attributes are what helped me get accepted into my dream university and in am in one of the best colleges of the states with a scholarship. Everyone is made up of the experiences they faced. Events in our lives, whether large or small, shape the way we are. A shameful incident that marks who I am today was failing my exam at a young age. It made me into an intellectual student who is more focused on accomplishing her goals. It proved to me that we always learn from our past and our mistakes for we are the sum of our experiences and tomorrow we will become more than we are today.

Raising children is a very hard job when you agree; however, when you disagree children tend to play one parent off the other causing conflict between the parents. You need to remember you are not only marrying the person, but also the children. Another red light could be the ex-spouse. If he/she causes constant trouble, you will be in constant turmoil in the new marriage and will need to consider canceling your plans to marry. Deal suggests other red flags such as cohabitation. This counselor would agree with Deal that cohabitation leans toward persons â€Å"who have negative attitudes toward marriage, increase their divorce risk by 50%, are less sexually trustworthy, have lower religious commitment, and are tempted to slide into marriage.† (154) Cohabitation is not biblical, in Genesis 2:24 gives us the standard for all marriages and in Matthew 19:5 Jesus tells us marriage is a legal and binding relationship. The â€Å"green light† (159) means everything is good and you can proceed with the dating or marriage plans. In the â€Å"green light† stage you can define your relationship. At this point Deal suggests you can share your relationship with your children. This also is the stage during which it is suggested you take the â€Å"Couple Checkup† (169). There are two advantages to doing it in this stage: first â€Å"it provides you and your partner an objective X ray of your relationship health.† (169) Second â€Å"learning about your weaknesses helps you as a couple target specific ways to improve.† (169) This counselor will encourage couples in the red light zone to take a break and consider not dating any longer. If they are in the yellow light zone this counselor will encourage them to consider looking deeply at what the problems are and working through them before proceeding with the relationship. In the green light zone this counselor will encourage them to be willing to talk about issues when they arise, to be willing to  talk about them, and to work on a compromise. Deal states: â€Å"Confidence calms the heart and reduces anxiety†. (194) This counselor could not agree more, and knowing where you stand in a relationship is the most important element. Solidifying the relationship so both persons know how each other feels and what to expect keeps the green light going. Telling the children if you have children will be important. A plan needs to be made about how to tell them and expect the unexpected. One needs to expect them to be happy and for them to be angry about the decision. Letting the children know what will happen will help them through the fear and anger. Deal does not go into depth about what to do if the families do not want this marriage. What if the families do not like the person you want to marry? This counselor agrees the spouse that was married to the ex ought to tell him/her before the wedding day. He explains that marriage is complicated and requires a couple to not be selfish. â€Å"God in his infinite wisdom ask each person to make a covenant that binds them together throughout life,† (187) or â€Å"until death do us part.† (187) Elwell states in the time of Christ a man could â€Å"divorce his wife for the most trivial of reasons† (347) from the â€Å"Hillelite Pharisees.† (347) This would suggest that if you take the side of the Hillelite Pharisees, our no fault divorce laws have been around for centuries. It is a delicate dance to get someone to commit to marriage to you when you are ready to commit to marriage and they will not. Deal gives several ideas: â€Å"Patiently continue dating, wrestle with your impatience, identify any specific concerns, give time for the hesitant person to find resolution, and at some point, the higher desire person will grow weary of waiting.† (188) Deal does later in the book suggest a time line of five years is a reasonable time to wait on  someone. If you have waited for five years and they still have not made a decision but you love them and cannot imagine life without that person do you walk away? Would it not be like a divorce? This counselor would not suggest anyone stay with someone for more than the five years unless they can make a decision to marry or not to marry. Deal speaks about crockpots and blenders in the chapter about â€Å"Preparing for a Good Blend.† The crockpots are those couples who move slowly with low heat,† (208) while the blender couples are those who â€Å"move quickly with high velocity.† (208) Deal states: â€Å"It is far wiser to adopt the crockpot cooking style.† (208) Otherwise slow and study is a much better way to blend a family than trying to quickly trying to force them to be a blended family. In this chapter he gives ideas about how to create stepfamilies. He says: â€Å"Younger children under the age of five may require far less time to soften toward stepparents than those between the ages of ten and fifteen years. Also, on occasion, a stubborn ingredient may resist softening and retain a sour taste. In either case, keep cooking.† This counselor would whole heartedly agree with his wisdom. The younger children are when stepparents arrive into their life, the easier it is to accept t hem. Deal also gives ideas about how to handle situations like: â€Å"getting married, calling a stepfather Daddy, combining holidays and other special-day traditions, and taking pictures as a family.† (209-210) With statistics saying that â€Å"fifty percent of first marriages fail and sixty percent of second marriages fail† (smartmarriages.com) this counselor believes Deal has made great recommendations in his book about how to blend families. Blended families will take work and Deal says that many times in this book. This book is an easy read with thought provoking topics. Some of the topics have a different way of looking at them than traditional thoughts. This book is a must read if you are thinking of remarrying or marrying someone who has been married before. According to the 2011 Census, there are 1,054,945 Muslims and 468,670 Sikhs that live in Canada. The number of Muslims and Sikhs that live in Canada are rising every year and as the number rises so does the number of hate crimes, especially against people that represent their faith through articles of clothing. The views on these articles of clothing are split between every individual, everyone has different opinions about them. There is a lack of knowledge from the general population about why people choose to represent their faith. But whose voice has the authority on this matter of the situation? Which matters more public opinion or legislation? The hijab and niqab are headscarves that are worn by Muslim women. The hijab is a veil covering worn by Muslim women to cover themselves within the public and it is to represent their faith the Islam while being modest (Litchmore, 2016). Another popular article of clothing that is in the Muslim community is the niqab which is like the hijab except the woman would cover their face as well, with the same purpose as the hijab. According to the Survey of Muslims in Canada 2016, over half of the Muslim population choose to wear some sort of headscarf. There are many reasons why Muslim women choose to wear the hijab or niqab, such as it represents their devotion to Islam. But most importantly it is a symbol of modesty for these women and is part of their identity. Sikhs also wear two significant articles of clothing, the kirpan, and the turban. A kirpan is a ceremonial sword that they carry around. While a turban is a scarf that wraps around their head. The kirpan is one of the five kakars, which are five articles of faith, and is a small dagger that translates as mercy and bless. A baptized Sikh is supposed to wear it always (Schwartz, 2011).
